Agreed, poor attempt in my opinion.

Except the gear trick actually works, and makes PvE even easier and even more mindless. I don't really see how you can compare that to running Paladins.

Because if you played PvE, you'd know that anyone with an iota of skill considers it incredibly noob... it's the PuG groups that mainly run it.

Just stop arguing here. There is a clash of playstyles here.
JR is a real pvp player, and thinks in terms of efficiency and what works. Like it or not, holding a keg or the like works and can be pimped out efficiently.
Avarre is a real pve player that gets enjoyment out of finding non standard solutions (right or wrong?).
Or in MtG language: "Spike meets Johnny."
Senseless to continue arguing with two compeletely different visions that don't see things from the others standingpoint.

Not exactly, I prefer optimization of characters. A warrior that can hold aggro invincible is better than one that holds a book (and has less armor and can't attack), so I don't like it as much (plus it removes the whole aggroing playerskill, which I feel is more efficient anyways).
You're right though. This whole thread is an idealogical rift between people, and dicussing on it further isn't going to help. Just for the record, a PvE championship is pointless... since the rewards of PvE are mainly cash, the winners would be those that can do an area with the smallest number of players (I think 3 can clear any place on Tyria). Everything would be the same (55+support+SS, or warrior+monk+SS), so not really worth it.

This idea has been brought up repeatedly. And it's still a stupid idea. No one is gonna pay you real money because your farming team is faster or more efficient than Jack's farming team.

yeah this would be useless, your not competing against another player that has there own playing style, your playing against a computer thats gonna be doing the exact same thing pretty much over and over, there's only a certain amount of things npc's can actually do by putting in this pve gwwc it would just be something that anet would have to work on to implement it into the game, whereas gwwc for pvp already has the players that are competing for the title and prize and they don't have to make arena for gwwc for pve.

Worthless idea, who the hell would want to see FarmWars?
In any case, I can tell you whos going to win the 'PvE' GWWC - it will be the same guilds at the top of the PvP GWWC charts.

I think the OP just wants a chance for some recognition and maybe a monetary bone or two.
What if A-Net made an area for only 1 weekend. We'll call it the preliminaries. You take your character, grab 7 henchmen.
And have to finish the 5-10 sequential missions. You get 1 crack at it once your start.
Mission 1 starts at 0100 Saturday morning GMT. Ends at 0300 Saturday Morning GMT.
Mission 2 starts at 0600 Saturday morning GMT. Ends at 0800 Saturday morning GMT.
...
At the end, all those who entered, have their overall progress (deaths, time in mission) charted. Top 100 from each server get to participate in the next round. Quarter Finals or something.
New areas, never seen before, new henchmen, and it should take approximately 45-60mins to complete each level. Hence the 2 hour window.

because fighting an AI as dumb as the GW AI is painfully boring and repititive. It wont work because PvP matches are easily so much more interesting and varied to watch.
Comparing a 5man SF farming run with kegs/cogs/etc to the PvP GWWC matches is like comparing paint drying to the football world cup. . . .

Ok Dougal, here you go.
PvE is static. The Monsters always bring the same skills, and trigger them at somewhat predictable intervals. The "hardest" PvE areas all have fixed spawns, taking that variable out of the equation too. Monsters are easily defeated, as the current AI is pathetic.
PvP is dynamic, people adapt. People bring skills to try and beat you. People can use their skills properly, every time. People can move around against other people, and attempt to exploit any tactical advantages they see fit to. Both teams do this, it's not one team that attacks when pulled with a longbow, and then mindlessly trys to kill one person because there's no one else in the aggro bubble.
Until you vastly improve the AI, make it adaptive, make all monsters use a full skill bar, and use different skills every time you enter an area... Basicaly turn the AI into people, you'll never have any real compitition. The only second best thing would be to have insanely overpowered monsters with in a new unknown area that have skills unlike no other monsters(aka not mountain trolls that always have the same skills...) swarm human players and see how long they can survive. The problem with this is the AI can mess up, and two PvE teams might have different circumstances do to this, even though they should be the same, there's really no clear winner either way, as PvE is not competitive game play, meaning that time shouldn't be a factor at all.
While as PvP you already have a dynamic game type, and there's a clearly defined way to win, and a clearly defined victor. Every team is subjected to the same "rules."
Could go on and on about this... If you have any more questions why a PvE championship won't work, feel free to PM me. Or use the search button, I'm sure there are a million other topics explaining it.

The static environment is the calibrated measurement of the expertise of the individuals/teams that would compete in the environment.
The OP is not looking to replace PvP championships. Just something for the people who do not play PvP. There are 2 faces to the coin, yet they are entwined.
Your premise that the gear/book/cog trick would not apply in the example I have put forth. Because you would not know of any gear/book/cog in the mission as you only have one shot at it with your party.
If the criteria of a timed run through a mission is seen as a negative factor, then only quantify the successful completion of the mission while factoring the number of deaths that team sustained.
The endstate would be clearly defined - complete mission and bonus.
The negativity portrayed in most of the posts has been regarding the AI of the program. As had been said before the AI is static and predictable. Only when you know what to expect from experience. How many people have been able to take any build and go to an area (solo or in a group) and have no difficulty the very first time.
Regarding the entertainment value of observing a PvE tournament, the entertainment value of watching sports like the Luge, Bobsled, downhill skiing must be like watching paint dry. You must now have watched any videos made from some of the PvE tutorials,or even the Factions trailers.
The thread was started in the Sardelac Sanitarium - about Game suggestions and ideas. The OP had an idea and decided to create a thread. Instead of just dismissing the idea - see if it can be fixed or adjusted so that the developers may one day add the type of content from someone's idea.
And if it really irritates people on the content of a thread, don't read it.
